Once Lacrimosa was crown princess of the eternal night. But after the king discovered that she was of illegitimate birth, he disowned her. He sent her to work in the castle kitchens and made her the laughing-stock of the royal court.
She never wanted to be queen anyway, and working as a servant isn’t so bad: she was well-liked by the castle staff, and they still make sure to look out for her now. The only problem is the way others look at her: for bringing shame to her family, for getting special treatment, for clinging to her high-born manners and ways. All she really wants is for her name to be forgotten.
Unfortunately, the Prophecy just chose her as the next legendary hero and ignited a sun in her right eye. The lunar priests are coming, bent on sacrificing her to their moon. Only the land of eternal day is safe for her now, and she’ll need to master her repressed sun-magic if she wants to make it there.
